Every tax deadline gig drivers need for the 2026 tax year

April 30 or June 15? Both, for different things. A single calendar of payment, filing, GST/HST, RRSP and instalment dates for self-employed drivers.

Self-employed people get extra time to file, but not extra time to pay. Mixing those up is the most common and most expensive deadline mistake gig drivers make.

The calendar for the 2026 tax year

April 30, 2027 Pay any income tax owing for 2026
April 30, 2027 Pay any GST/HST owing (annual filers with a December 31 year-end)
June 15, 2027 File your 2026 income tax return (self-employed and their spouses)
June 15, 2027 File your annual GST/HST return
June 15, 2027 Second 2027 instalment, if required

Why April 30 matters more than June 15

Interest on unpaid tax starts the day after the payment date, even though your return isn't due until June 15. If you owe $3,000 and pay in June, you'll pay interest for the gap.

The simple habit: file and pay by April 30. You get no benefit from waiting.

If you can't pay in full

File on time anyway. The late-filing penalty (5% of what you owe plus 1% per full month late) is separate from interest, and it only applies if you file late. Pay what you can, and contact the CRA about a payment arrangement for the rest.

Instalment dates

If the CRA asks you to pay instalments, they're due March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. The CRA sends reminders in February and August.
